The late 20th century writings by JB Jackson are fascinating and inspiring for what they reveal about the evolution of the modern American landscape. Conversely, the aerial photographs of Yann Arthus-Bertrand are an alarming record of our human footprint upon the planet. Approximately one half of all energy consumed, and forty percent of the greenhouse gases produced in this country, are used in our buildings. Half of these are houses. All architects bear a responsibility towards environmental stewardship that is more than just lip service. It should just be simply engrained as a methodology.
