Originally constructed as a country store in 1924, this 1700 square foot two-story structure was converted to a duplex apartment in the 1970‘s, then later modified to an artist’s studio. The ground level shop with an eleven-foot ceiling was carefully converted to open living/dining/kitchen space. The upper two-tier living level layout, simplified. All internal systems were upgraded, new windows deliberately located to maximize view, privacy, and solar orientation. The challenge was to breathe new life into a tired and neglected old building on a limited budget while respecting the character of the existing storefront and surrounding neighborhood.
