619 kitchen renovation
charlottesville, virginia 2013
Built in 1921 then converted to a duplex in the 1970’s the structure has undergone an extensive renovation and reverted back to a single family home.
Facing structural failure, the kitchen and dining room were completely replaced and updated. An existing masonry chimney veneered in cut slate anchors a modernized kitchen. A partial height plywood clad wall separates the kitchen from dining allowing a sense of a much larger space while shielding the dining experience from kitchen equipment.
A large skylight shaft over the existing stairs drives daylight deep into the house.
